Australian legal innovation company Plexus has announced exceptional growth for Legal Gateway, the world’s first Legal Operating System, adding four major clients in October alone.
Plexus’ legal automation is now used by over 100 organisations including L’Oréal, Optus, Specsavers and Holden to revolutionise the way their legal teams deliver value.
“In-house legal teams constantly feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. They are consumed by high-volume low-complexity tasks, which means there’s limited space for them to support strategic activities,” says Andrew Mellett, Plexus CEO.
Over the next two years, 71% of general counsels predict legal risk will rise, leading 91% to expect workloads to dramatically increase. Yet less than a quarter expect any budgetary relief so it’s clear things needed to change (Plexus GC Thought Leaders Research 2016).
“We’ve spent the past four years building a platform that enables the business to put their best lawyer, on their best day, on every device in the company – handling the work that was once a burden for legal teams and restricted the pace of business,” Plexus Chief Commercial Officer Rick Junnier adds.
Through legal automation and contract lifecycle management, Legal Gateway enables a business to automate, negotiate, execute, manage, store and analyse contracts while sophisticated workflows involve the legal team whenever there is risk they need to advise on.
Global brands such as L’Oreal have adopted automation in areas such as marketing compliance, HR, sales, procurement, along with core business activities such as NDAs.
Anna Lozynski, General Counsel Australia & New Zealand – L’Oréal, says Legal Gateway has empowered her legal team to do more for less: lower external legal spend whilst increasing the business’s satisfaction with the legal function.
“Legal Gateway has instilled a spirit of continuous improvement and an ingrained thinking of how we can embrace innovation to deliver legal services,” says Lozynski.
The platform also gives teams access to unprecedented levels of data and analytics. Using Legal Gateway, legal teams can not only visualise performance metrics such as activity volumes, and cycle times, but they can realise insights and ‘teach’ the business about risks and opportunities from the unique information source contracts provide.
Mellett says this opens a whole new world for the legal function. “Rather than being fearful of automation, Legal Gateway is creating an operating model that brings lawyers closer to the business. In fact, with technology doing more of the time-consuming work, we will see legal teams do more of the advisory and strategic work most valued by their clients.”
