Eligible entrants
- Entry is only open to Australian and New Zealand citizens (or permanent residents) who are aged 18 years or over on the Promotional Period Start date and who are a qualified hairdresser or apprentice hairdresser employed at a salon in Australia or New Zealand.
- There are several rounds of this Promotion. All entrants must be available to travel to Sydney to participate in the Redken Shades EQ Gloss Boss Finalist round (“Round 2”), taking place from 01/06/25 to 02/06/25.
- All salon entrants who make it to Round 2 must still be employed at the salon they originally entered with at the beginning of the Promotional Period.
- Each entrant’s salon must be trading at the time of entry. If the salon is trading with L’Oréal Australia or L’Oréal New Zealand, it must be fully compliant with L’Oréal’s conditions of sale and credit terms at all stages of the Promotion in order for the entrant to be eligible.
- Where applicable, entrants must obtain the consent of the salon owner(s) where they are employed in order to enter into this Promotion.
Any model used by an entrant at any stage of the Promotion must be aged 18 years or over (“Model”). The entrant must have written consent from the model to take and use their photo and personal image in this Promotion. The entrant must also have written consent from the photographer who has taken the photo as part of the look creation entry to use the image as part of this Promotion.
If a Finalist cannot attend due to COVID or illness at the time of Round 2, they unfortunately will not be able to participate and will forfeit any right to a prize.
Entrant rules
- Entry may only be as a “Individual”.
- An Individual entry consists of one (1) person being the cutter, stylist & colourist.
- The Model/s used at any stages of the Promotion must have had an allergy alert test 48 hours before the color application or have completed the Redken ‘Professional Safety’ protocol.
- No Individual may use the same Model for more than one (1) entry and/or Round. This means that should an entrant make it to further Round(s), they must create a new look with a new Model who has not previously been used as part of the Promotion. For the removal of doubt, different Individuals cannot share the same Model and submit a different entry.
- If more than one entry is chosen for Round 2 from the same Individual, the highest-ranking entry will advance to Round 2 and the other chosen entries will be discarded.
- All entrants must create an original and creative final look using only Redken products on the Model and no other products during each Round.
- The Promoter may deviate from any rules outlined in this section as it sees fit and in its absolute discretion.
The Brief
- Entrants must create a well-executed, inspirational and modern colour look on any model of any gender, identity or a hair type as per the table below for the relevant category. The judges will be looking for colour, technique, colour formulation and placement that is complemented by a beautiful style and finish. The total look must take inspiration from upcoming trends and sources. The total look must also reflect the professional skillset of the individual colours whilst maintaining the integrity of the hair, which can be demonstrated by healthy and shiny hair on the final result of the model.
- Entrants can interpret this as they see fit, but the final look must share the same values as Redken. These are:
- Fashion: Taking inspiration from trends – current trends or upcoming trends
- Innovation: Classic elements, with a brand-new twist
- Digital: Socially-optimised video editing of a look, capturing the colouring & styling journey of the hair

In this category, an impressively blonde colored look is required! You decide whether you want to submit a dreamy balayage look, breathtaking babylights effects, or your personal blond creation. What is expected is a fascinating blond that shines brilliantly.

60% of the end result must be a hair colour type between levels 7 to 10.

Shades EQ Gloss Boss Brunette
|
In this category, an impressive brunette colored look is requested! You decide whether your look includes chocolate tones or coffee tones.
|
Natural base of model must be a hair colour type between levels 2 and 6. The end result must be a hair colour type between levels 4 to 7.
|
Shades EQ Gloss Boss Creative
|
In this category, an impressive creative colored look is requested! You decide whether your look includes copper tones, red tones or luxe wearable rich tones.
|
Natural base of model must be a hair colour type between levels 1 and 9. The end result must be a hair colour type between levels 1 to 9.
|
- Wefts, weaves and extensions covering a maximum 15% of the head using Redken Colour can be used.
- No full wigs are allowed.
- The work presented must always be exceptionally executed and technically correct.
- The use of filters, photo editing or photo-enhancement tools are not permitted
- Models do not have to be professional, but they have to be confident, self-assured and ‘own’ their look.
- The clothes, makeup and accessories should enhance and complement the overall look that the hair stylist has created.
- The hair colour will be the overriding factor in any decision-making process.
How to Enter
To enter, the entrant must complete the following steps during the Submission Period:
- Capture a before-and-after video transformation of their Model showcasing their interpretation of The Brief as outlined above (“Video”);
- Visit https://redkenglossbossawards-anz.event-loreal.com/ and fully complete and submit the online registration form with all requested details, including the colour formula, techniques used and the Instagram handle used to complete the step below. Entrants must also include a cover photo. The cover photo must be a still image/snapshot taken from the Video, which will be used as the cover image to identify your entry on judging day.
- Post the Video to their Instagram reels. Entrants must have internet access and an open Instagram (i.e., an account that is not set to 'private').
Entrants must upload their entry video, which must:
- be a maximum of 60 seconds long
- be posted to Instagram Reels
- feature no clear visual branding other than Redken (i.e. on colouring tools and styling equipment, clothing, or featured on products in the background)
- be created in compliance with the L’Oréal 'Professional Safety' protocol when applying lightener & colour (including wearing an apron and gloves, using plastic colouring tools, plastic tail comb and plastic sectioning clips)
- be filmed in portrait mode (9" x 16")
- be no more than 1 year old at the date of entry
- exclude the use of an Instagram filter, or any photo editing/colour enhancing tools
- comply with the applicable Category Terms
- include a 'before' and 'after' result on their model

Products that MUST be used to create the ‘look’:
- Entrants must exclusively use Redken Shades EQ color on the model. Other products from the Redken color portfolio may be used, but the entry must prominently feature Shades EQ color.
- Entrants must use the current range of Redken Shades EQ colour and Redken styling products (meaning, those products available for purchase from January 2025 onwards).
The Promoter reserves the right to revise these dates and extend the period for accepting entries to the Promotion, including in the event of circumstances arising beyond its reasonable control.
Late entries will not be permitted unless expressly stated.
Entries permitted
Multiple entries are permitted, subject to the following: maximum one (1) entry per category. Each entry must be submitted separately and in accordance with above entry requirements.
Redken Shades EQ Gloss Boss Category Round (Round 1)
- At the conclusion of the Submission Period, fifteen (15) finalists (five (5) from each Category) across Australia and New Zealand combined will be selected by a panel of judges to proceed to Round 2 (“Finalists”).
- The Models in the Video must showcase the entrant’s interpretation of The Brief as outlined above and will be judged on the colour that’s been created on the model’s hair and/or the overall finished cut and/or styling as applicable and which best meet The Brief.
- Judging for Round 1 will take place on 14/04/25.
- All entrants will be marked in the following way:Each of the judges will be required to mark all entrants as to how well they meet The Brief set out above, giving each a mark from 1 to 10 with, 1 being “poorly executed” and 10 being “excellently executed”.
- Each Judge’s individual scores will be combined to provide an overall ranking for each entrant.
Redken Shades EQ Gloss Boss Finalist Round (Round 2)
- The Top 15 Finalists selected for Round 2 will be required to travel to Sydney, NSW, to participate in a two-day event. Return economy flights to/from Sydney, NSW (only provided if the Finalist does not reside in New South Wales) and two nights’ accommodation for the Finalist will be provided by the Promoter. Flights and accommodation will be arranged and selected by the Promoter.
- On 01/06/25, there will be a Creative Day in Sydney featuring live judging, where the Finalists will be required to create a new look on a different model (selected by the Promoter) from their original Round 1 entry. This day will focus on colouring.
- On 02/06/25, Finalists will be required to style their model for the runway event, where their complete look will be showcased.
- The Promoter’s representatives will also be filming a variety of video content (including interviews) with the Finalists, which will be published online and will be featured at the Gloss Boss Runway Awards night.
- Any rules that apply for the new look creation will be provided to Round 2 Finalists, including for example, time limits to be used in the creation of the new look.
- Judging Criteria:
- The judges will assess the newly created looks based on the following evaluation criteria: formula, technical execution, and the end result, in alignment with the brief from Round 1 for each category. Finalists’ work and performance will then be evaluated with a score between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) for evaluation criteria (originality, harmony, ‘before & after’, clean finish, creativity through colours, creativity & technical skills, cutting-edge hairstyles, hair statement).
- The judge’s individual scores will be combined to provide an overall ranking for each Finalist.
- The best Finalist overall from each category, as determined by the Judges, will be deemed the Gloss Boss winners (three (3) winners).
- The Finalists may be interviewed by a Redken Representative(s) about their look, technique, application, colours and products used on their Model.

Unclaimed Prizes
In the event of an unclaimed prize, the Promoter may at its discretion assign the prize to the entry judged the next best entry, conduct a further judging to award the prize, or withdraw the prize unawarded. The Promoter is under no obligation to award any unclaimed prize.
Travel Conditions
- All entrants must meet all travel and health requirements for any interstate/overseas travel (for the purposes of travelling to Sydney for Round 2 or internationally for the Gloss Boss Prize). It is the responsibility of any entrant to check with all government health authorities regarding travel requirements and eligibility. Any fines, penalties, expenditure or inability to travel as a consequence of not meeting such requirements are the sole responsibility of the entrant.
- The Promoter makes no representation as to the safety, conditions or other issues that may exist at any of the destinations or events forming part of this Promotion. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to check government advisories and/or conditions regarding the safety and situation of any such destinations.
- Travel itinerary will be determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion.
- Travel prize is subject to the standard terms and conditions of individual prize and service providers.
- The winning individual must depart from and return to the same departure point and travel together. Departure/return point will be the winning individual’s nearest Australia or New Zealand capital city.
- Subject to the terms and conditions of the participating prize provider(s), if for any reason a winning individual does not, once the travel prize has been booked, take the travel prize (or an element of the travel prize) at the time stipulated, then the travel prize (or that element of the travel prize) will be forfeited and will not be redeemable for cash.
- The travel prize is subject to booking and flight availability.
- The winning individual is responsible for ensuring that they have valid passports (if applicable), and any requisite visas, vaccinations and travel documentation.
- Frequent flyer points will not be awarded and do not form part of the prize.
- Spending money, meals, taxes (excluding airline and airport taxes), insurance, passports, visas, vaccinations, transport to and from departure point, transfers, items of a personal nature, in-room charges and all other ancillary costs, unless otherwise specified in the prize description, are not included.
- The winning individual may be required to present their credit card at accommodation check in.
Additional Significant Conditions
- Entries cannot be returned and are the property of the Promoter, unless otherwise permitted by the Promoter.
- The winning individuals must be prepared to take part in publicity accompanying or resulting from the Promotion. No additional compensation will be awarded for such promotional activities.
- The Promoter reserves the right in its absolute discretion to add to or waive any of these Terms and Conditions, or to cancel the Promoter at any stage, including in the event of circumstances arising beyond its reasonable control.
- Victoria, Australia, law applies and the courts of Victoria, Australia shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any proceedings involving Australian entrants in connection with this Promotion. In the case of any proceedings involving New Zealand entrants, New Zealand law applies (and New Zealand courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any proceedings).
Further Conditions
- The entrant agrees and acknowledges that they have read these Conditions of Entry (and Schedule) and that participation in this the Promotion is deemed to be acceptance of these Conditions of Entry (and Schedule). Any capitalised terms used in these Conditions of Entry have the meaning given in the Schedule, unless stated otherwise.
- All entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt by the Promoter and not at the time of transmission or deposit by the entrant. Records of the Promoter and its agencies are final and conclusive as to the time of receipt.
- Employees (and their immediate family members) of agencies/companies directly associated with the conduct of this Promotion, the Promoter, businesses involved in determination of winner/s for the Promotion, businesses involved in the management of the Promotion, any organisation benefiting from the Promotion, the Promoter’s distributors, suppliers, subsidiary companies/businesses and associated companies and agencies are not eligible to enter. "Immediate family member" means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, de-facto spouse, child or step-child (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister or 1st cousin.
- The judges may select additional reserve entries which they determine to be the next best, and record them in order, in case of an invalid entry or ineligible entrant. The finalists and winners will be determined by skill. Chance plays no part in determining the finalists or winners. The judges' decision is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
- All reasonable attempts will be made to contact each winner.
- If any winner chooses not to take their prize (or is unable to), or does not take or claim a prize within a reasonable time, as specified by the Promoter, or is unavailable at the designated time for any finalist event, they forfeit the prize and the Promoter is not obliged to substitute the prize.
- No part of a prize is exchangeable, redeemable for cash or any other prize or transferable, unless otherwise specified in writing by the Promoter.
- If a prize (or portion of a prize) is unavailable the Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize (or that portion of the prize) to a prize of equal or greater value and specification.
- No entry fee is charged by the Promoter to enter the Promotion. Where entry is allowed online, there is no additional cost to enter the Promotion other than any cost paid by the entrant to access the website or social media platform of entry via their Internet service provider.
- If there is a dispute as to the identity of an entrant or winner, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the identity of the entrant or winner.
- All entries will be the property of the Promoter. The information entrants provide will be used by the Promoter for the purpose of conducting this competition. The Promoter may collect entrants' personal information (including through its contractors or agents) or disclose entrants' personal information to its contractors and agents to assist in conducting this competition or communicating with, or developing its relationship with, entrants including to overseas locations such as New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Singapore and other countries in Asia and the EU. By entering this promotion, entrants consent to the storage of their personal information on the Promoter's database and the Promoter may use this information for future competition and marketing purposes regarding its products, including contacting the entrant via electronic messaging. By entering this promotion, entrants consent to receiving SMS or email messages from the Promoter. The Promoter is bound by the Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988. Entrants can request access to the personal information the Promoter holds about them by contacting the Promoter at the address stated in the Promoter section of these conditions. (for New Zealand), contains information about: (a) how entrants can seek access to the personal information the Promoter holds about them and seek the correction of such information; and (b) how entrants can complain about a privacy breach and how the Promoter will deal with such a complaint.
- For the purposes of public statements and advertisements, the Promoter may only publish the winner's surname, initial and postcode of residence.
- The Promoter reserves the right to refuse to allow an entrant or winner to take part in any or all aspects of an event/ prize, if the Promoter determines in their absolute discretion, that an entrant or winner is not in the physical or mental condition necessary to be able to safely participate in an event/prize or accept a prize. It is a condition of participating in an event and accepting a prize that an entrant or winner may be required to sign a legal release as determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion, prior to participating in an event or receiving a prize.
- If a prize is provided to the Promoters by a third party, the prize is subject to the terms and conditions of the third party prize supplier. The terms and conditions which apply to the prize at the time it is issued to the winner will prevail over these Conditions of Entry in the event of any inconsistency. To the extent permitted by law the Promoters accept no responsibility or liability for any delay or failure by the third party to deliver the prize, any delay or failure relating to the prize itself or failure by the third party to meet any of its obligations in these Conditions of Entry or otherwise.
- Any guarantee or warranty given is in addition to any relevant statutory guarantees and warranties and nothing in these Conditions of Entry restricts, excludes or modifies or purports to restrict, exclude or modify any statutory consumer rights under any applicable law including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (NZ) and/or Fair Trading Act 1986 (NZ) and the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
- If for any reason any aspect of this Promotion is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of computer virus, communications network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failure or any cause beyond the control of the Promoter, the Promoter may in its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion and invalidate any affected entries, or suspend or modify an event or prize.
- The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to validate and check the authenticity of entries and entrant's details (including an entrant's identity, age and place of residence). In the event that a winner cannot provide suitable proof as required by the Promoter to validate their entry, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered. Incomplete, indecipherable, inaudible, incorrect and illegible entries, as applicable, will at the Promoter's discretion be deemed invalid and not eligible to win. Entries containing offensive or defamatory comments, or which breach any law or infringe any third party rights, including intellectual property rights, are not eligible to win. The use of any automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that allows an individual to automatically enter repeatedly is prohibited and may render all entries submitted by that individual invalid.
- All material submitted on entry or otherwise to the Promoter in relation to this Promotion (e.g. photo(s), image(s), drawing(s), comment(s), sound/video recording(s) and answer(s) to a promotional question) (“Material”) must NOT: (a) be in breach of any laws, regulations and rights, e.g. any laws regarding intellectual property (copyright, trademarks, etc), defamation and privacy; (b) be defamatory, obscene, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, contain nudity, aggressive, violent, abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable or discriminate/vilify any section of the community with respect to race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, origin, sexual preference, mental illness, disability or gender or unsuitable for publication; or (c) contain viruses. Entrants warrant that they own or have the right to license the copyright in any Material submitted by them into this Promotion, for the purposes of this Promotion, that no rights have been granted to any third party in respect of any such Material which would prevent the Material being used as contemplated by this Promotion, and that the use by the Promoter of any such Material will not breach any laws or infringe the rights of any person (including without limitation with respect to privacy, intellectual property and defamation). Entrants must obtain prior consent from any person or from the owner(s) of any property that appears in their Material. By entering, all entrants license and grant the Promoter, its affiliates and sub-licensees an exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, and sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish and display their Material (including any portion of their Material) for any purpose, including but not limited to future promotional, marketing or publicity purposes, in any media, without compensation, restriction on use, attribution or liability. The Promoter may use the Material on Redken websites, social media pages and blogs, print, point-of-sale and salon material (e.g. presentations to Redken salons or non-Redken salons) for promoting the event, PR content print and online, editorial, advertising and advertorial content, trade press and 2025/26 promotion print and online and educational or internal purposes, etc. For the sake of clarity, entrant’s photos (provided as part of this Promotion) may be provided by the Promoter to media publications e.g. magazine publications such as but not limited to Marie Claire, to publish/house on their various media platforms for marketing purposes including promoting this Promotion. Entrants further agree, upon request by the Promoter, to assign all of their rights, title and interest (including copyright) in and to their Material to the Promoter and to sign any legal documentation to confirm such assignment. Entrants agree that their Material is their original work and does not infringe the rights of third parties, or that they have obtained full prior consent from any person who has jointly created or has any rights in the aforementioned material. Entrants consent to any use of their Material that may otherwise infringe their moral rights. Entrants are responsible for all entries they submit on entry. The Promoter will not be liable for any entries, to the extent permitted by law. The Promoter reserves the right to remove, request removal or decline to publish any Material or portion of the Material for any reason whatsoever, including if in breach of these Terms and Conditions. The Promoter will have no liability to entrants if it exercises this right and entrants must comply with any request made by the Promoter pursuant to this paragraph. The entrants warrants and represents that any material sent or provided by the entrant to the Promoter will not infringe any copyright, trademarks or other intellectual property rights of any third party (including moral rights) and that the entrant has all rights to use the materials and has obtained all necessary consents to comply with any relevant privacy and/or confidentiality requirements. Entrants agree to indemnify the Promoter for any breach of the Terms and Conditions including this clause.
- The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify entries in the event of non-compliance with these Conditions of Entry. In the event that there is a dispute concerning the conduct of the Promotion or claiming a prize, the Promoter will resolve the dispute in direct consultation with the entrant. If the dispute cannot be resolved the Promoter’s decision will be final.
- The Promoter and its associated agencies and companies will not be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense, damage, personal injury or death which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person's negligence or wilful misconduct) in connection with this Promotion or accepting or using any prize (or recommendation). For the sake of clarity, this clause shall not apply where the Promoter has contributed to or caused such loss, expense, damage, personal injury or death and shall not apply to any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in each case the Promoter’s liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
- The winner(s) will participate in and co-operate as required with all reasonable marketing and editorial activities relating to the Promotion, including (but not limited to) being recorded, photographed, filmed or interviewed and acknowledges that the Promoter may use any such marketing and editorial material without further reference or compensation to them.
- Unless otherwise specified, a prize is a single event for the winner (and where relevant their guests) and cannot be separated into separate events or components.
- The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any tax implications and the entrant must seek their own independent financial advice in regards to the tax implications relating to the prize or acceptance of the prize.
- Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of these rights.
